The Provincial Health Services Authority, the Occupational Health Safety Agency for Healthcare, the University of British Columbia and Vancouver Coastal Health worked collaboratively to develop this education module. Please read the following instructions carefully.
The Infection Control Basics Module uses animations, interactive activities and video demonstrations to teach the basic principles on infection control within the health care system, sharps management, hand hygiene, blood and body fluid exposure and clean up, the proper use of personal protective equipment and isolation precautions. Upon completion of the Infection Control Basics course, the learner will:
- be aware of the importance of infection control
- be familiar with and apply routine infection control precautions as part of daily practice
- know how and when to use personal protective barriers, and
- be able to describe the various types of isolation
It is appropriate for all health care professionals. It takes between 25-45 minutes and includes a test.
